This is also known as Abduction and Adduction.
How do you remember which one is which? I think of adduction as when something is being added. So, when the legs are adducting they are being "added" together and coming towards the midline of the body.
Abduction is the opposite movement-something is being taken away like abducted. So, when the legs are abducting it means they are being taken away from midline.
